Rompers first appeared in the United States in the early 1900s and believe it or not, they were initially created as playsuits or playwear for children. I think that’s why we love them so much. It’s sort of like we are wearing a dress but it’s easier to be more active in a romper or jumpsuit. We can dress them up with accessories and heels or dress them down with a great pair of sneakers. Rompers can be as cozy and relaxed as PJ’s. They are so versatile.
Rompers and jumpsuits just made a comeback in the last 2010’s and are hot again this spring/summer. Here are some ideas of how to style them.
1. Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2021 Romper
This romper by Saint Laurent is everything. It’s sophisticated, makes a statement. If you wanted a pop of color or wanted to add a print, you could switch the white shirt underneath. I see this romper paired with pumps – they could be black or you could pair them with red or yellow pumps and floral clutch with some of those same colors. A fedora hat could be a finishing touch to this fit, making it effortlessly cool.
2. Patagonia Women’s June Lake Jumpsuit
This is the perfect summer romper/jumpsuit. it’s cozy and comfy. It screams straw hat and sandals. The subtle floral print is something that everyone could pull off (even those who think they can’t wear prints). This jumpsuit could also be dressed put by belting it with a red or purple obi belt and pumps.
3. Pure Navy Jumpsuit
This jumpsuit from thredUP is perfect for this summer. Cutouts and the wide legged crop look is on trend. Red is a power color. You could pair this with floral pumps and pull a bright color from the pumps for your handbag. Or you could pair turquoise accessories with this jumpsuit. Turquoise and red look really good together. You could also just wear it “as is” and put on some white sneakers and a jean jacket.
3. Young Fabulous & Broke Jumpsuit
This boho floral off-the-shoulder jumpsuit is gorgeous. The pattern is between floral and tie dye. Yellow and purple are an interesting color combination. You could wear it casually or pair it with a purple or red belt and shoes. If you were feeling really brave you could add turquoise crochet earrings.
5. House of Sunny The Coveralls
I’m in love with this brand. This bright orange jumpsuit will surely get you noticed. The funny thing is it’s kind of tame compared to a lot of their clothing line. The orange speaks for itself so it’s fine to pair it with a neutral handbag and shoes (like seen in this picture below). But in the spirit of House of Sunny I’d pep it up. I’d pair this jumpsuit with pink earrings and pumps and a floral handbag with orange and pink colors.
6. Embossed Towelling Playsuit
This is my favorite jumpsuit of all time – it’s so on trend right now. It is so popular that Jaded London came out with two new colors perfect for the spring time. Personally, my favorite is the blue/green one. I love how bright it is. The texturing on the jumpsuit is so fun and I love that you can button it up or leave it unbuttoned. Personally, I would pair this with some chunky boots or chunky colorful heels and a small, dainty purse.
