According to research from the Environmental Working Group and the NIH, some flame retardants have been connected to hormone disruption, developmental issues, and even cancer in high exposures. Lexy Silverstein in Malibu California Warns Consumers about Formaldehyde in Clothing

The Hidden Danger in Your Wardrobe: Formaldehyde, Yes Formaldehyde Might Be in Your Clothing

What are the Health Risks of Formaldehyde? According to the EPA these are the health concerns:

Respiratory Issues: Acute exposure can cause respiratory symptoms, eye, nose, and throat irritation. Chronic inhalation may lead to more severe respiratory problems.

Skin Reactions: Direct contact can result in skin irritation and allergic reactions.

Cancer Risk: Both human and animal studies have linked formaldehyde exposure to an increased risk of cancers, particularly lung and nasopharyngeal cancer. The EPA classifies it as a probable human carcinogen.

Reproductive Issues: Formaldehyde exposure has been linked to reproductive and developmental health concerns, particularly in women. Studies have observed an increased incidence of menstrual disorders in female workers handling urea-formaldehyde resins. However, it’s important to note that these studies did not fully account for other possible influencing factors. Additionally, research involving hospital equipment sterilizing workers found no direct association between formaldehyde exposure and an increased rate of spontaneous abortions. Animal studies have not shown developmental effects like birth defects due to formaldehyde exposure.

Is Mushroom Leather the Next Big Thing in Sustainable Fashion?

I’ve been really getting into mushrooms lately. And don’t think I’m tripping when I say fungi is taking over the fashion world. It’s true. Fungi doesn’t exactly sound cool or fashionable but trust me, it is very cool that designers are using mushrooms to make sustainable clothing and accessories. Handbags, shoes and clothes are being

The Only Good Thing About Tariffs? They Might Finally Make Shein More Expensive

Okay, let’s just get this out of the way: One of my goals in life is to destroy Shein’s business model. Not out of spite but because it’s built on a foundation of environmental wreckage, worker exploitation, and clothes that barely survive a spin cycle. Oh — and did I mention the toxic chemicals? According

The fashion industry runs on fossil fuels—from polyester production to factory power. The Make Polluters Pay campaign is shifting climate costs from consumers to the companies that caused the crisis. Here's what that means for sustainable fashion.

Make Polluters Pay: Why Your Polyester Dress Is Funded by Big Oil (And What We’re Doing About It)

We’ve been sold a story about sustainability that puts all the pressure on us. Shop better. Recycle harder. Calculate your carbon footprint. Feel guilty about every purchase. But here’s what that story leaves out: the climate crisis wasn’t caused by you buying a dress. It was engineered by fossil fuel companies that knew for decades
